Will an English-speaking instructor guide me through the entire trial dive?

We're not fluent English speakers, but we communicate well using simple conversational English plus translation apps. A lot of the actual diving communication happens through hand signals and gestures underwater anyway, so language is less of a barrier than you might expect. If anything's unclear, we stop and check together with a translation app.

Do I need to speak Japanese to book?

No Japanese needed. Feel free to message us anytime in English through our official LINE — English messages are completely fine.

The program pages on our website are in Japanese — how can I check the details?

Do I need to be a confident swimmer or speak fluent English to try diving?

Not at all. Trial diving is designed exactly for people with no diving qualification and no experience. And since VERRYS is fully private, one-group-a-day, we go at your pace and double-check anything unclear — for language and for comfort in the water, exactly the same as we do for our Japanese guests.

Is the price the same for international guests, and can I pay by credit card?

Yes — pricing is the same for everyone, no different rate for international guests. And yes, we accept credit card payment.

Simple conversation + translation apps — and it works

We’re not fluent English speakers. But between simple conversational English and translation apps, we’re able to communicate just fine.

A lot of diving communication happens through gestures and movement underwater anyway, so it’s less of a barrier than you might think. If something’s unclear, we just pull out a translation app together and check.

The academic portion of certification courses is already multilingual

If you’re working toward a certification like Open Water Diver, the classroom/e-learning portion is already available in multiple languages, so that part is no problem at all. For the in-water training, we support you with simple English and translation apps, the same way.

One group a day, at your own pace

VERRYS is the only fully private, one-group-a-day dive shop in Nagasaki. You won’t be sharing your day with other guests, so we can go at your pace and double-check anything that’s unclear — exactly the same as we do for our Japanese guests 🐠
